Family photos done differently...

I am passionate that family photos can be more than just updated portraits of your family. They can, and should, be a depiction of your life together. Of course it's important to clearly see the growing faces of everyone in your family, especially as your family continues to grow together; and sometimes, direction may feel ideal for placing you in a scene that feels magical in its' own right, whether it be a field at sunset, the backdrop of a Northeast Iowa bluff-town covered in Fall leaves, or simply the rolling hills in your own backyard. But I truly believe that the most magical of moments happen while doing activities in places that feel like home. There is so much added value to your family session when you set aside a little more time (15-20 minutes) dedicated to letting your family roam free doing something that you love. It could be a walk to the park, or a ranger ride to your favorite lookout spot. Splashing in the puddles in your driveway, or ice cream at your local sweet shop. Little to no directing happens in these moments, simply because it isn't needed. You will find that your kids just make the magic on their own, because they feel comfortable and excited to be somewhere fun yet familiar.

I often receive comments from families who have booked Storytelling sessions with me who state that these photos just feel different. They feel full of life, energetic, and are oozing with love. & here's the secret, which is not really a secret at all. It's because they are real. They make you emotional because deep down, you know these moments weren't fabricated. It's how life really WAS. You know when you are 80, this will be what you remember. These are the photos that will remind your children of home, because it's what home was.

I have worked to develop a variety of packages to fit different needs. The Storytelling Trio includes everything you could hope for in a photoshoot, and more. Portraits, lightly guided candids (lifestyle), and an additional 15-20 minutes at the end of your session to include an activity based on your family's interests, or simply to capture your family in or around your property or home. *Newborn sessions fall underneath this package due to the time allotted for these sessions* Documentary Sessions take the focus of telling your family's story to a new level, and are filled with nothing but comfort and familiarity. These are 100% stress free sessions, because expectations are nonexistent. I am a fly on the wall, capturing your life in the most authentic of forms. There is little to no guiding, and I simply move myself to be in the space and at the best angles to creatively capture your family in action. The magic that lives in these sessions is indescribable, and a perfect way to remember this stage of live as vividly as possible. Portraits do not occur in this session to make sure we capture your family in their most authentic form, but 3 & 4 hour sessions include a complimentary Fall Family Micro Mini so that you can capture these portraits at a separate time. The Standard Family Milestone is best for families looking for a quick family portrait update. It does not include additional time dedicated to documenting an activity, and focuses on portraits and a few guided lifestyle candid images. These sessions are great for milestones (6 months/birthdays/holiday card photos/etc) or to simply update your family "smile here" images.
